The Lost Words: Spell Songs
“Once upon a time, words began to vanish from the language of children. They disappeared so quietly that at first almost no one noticed – fading away like water on stone. The words were those that children used to name the natural world around them: acorn, adder, bluebell, bramble, conker – gone! Fern, heather, kingfisher, otter, raven, willow, wren…all of them gone! The words were being lost…”

"Undoubtedly one of [The Lost Words] most thrilling transformations has been into the music [of Spell Songs] brought about by the vision and brilliance of eight musicians, who have together taken The Lost Words and turned it into something diverse, hopeful, moving and new. There are songs here that would live with me for the rest of my years, even I'd had no part in their making." - Robert Macfarlane.
"There's something really weird about The Lost Words, like a green magic. And Spellsongs just takes it deeper, and unlocks and releases and reconnects. It's like being rewired. With all the news about extinction of species, degradation of habitat, climate change, it's hard to know the way forward. Coming together, with music and art we can begin to make a difference, change the way we see the world, and make a change". - Jackie Morris.
