Welcome to Solva Woollen Mill

Solva Woollen Mill has been nestled on the banks of the River Solfach since January 31 1907. Tucked away in this beautiful valley just upstream from the pretty coastal village of Solva, the mill has been in continuous production since it opened and is now the oldest working woollen mill in Pembrokeshire. Initially powered by an overshot waterwheel, the mill still uses Dobcross looms designed in the late 1800s to produce flat woven rugs and runners. We are a family business proud to own such a working woollen mill and to continue the use of traditional skills in our weaving.
Visitors to the mill can wander through the weaving sheds, chat to the weavers as they are warping, splitting yarn or weaving. There is a mill shop we redesigned in 2011 by renovating the original mill building, breathing new life into a space that once housed carding engines and spinning mules and which now provides a warm welcome for visitors. We feel passionately about sourcing all the products in the shop from the UK. Ideally they should be made from natural materials, made by skilled craftsmen or made with quality by small enterprising businesses. We have a tearoom located in the old dye shed selling homemade cakes to be enjoyed in the old mill or by the waterwheel that was restored in 2007.

From our valley here in west Wales we send our rugs, runners and other products all over the world. We are able to reproduce historic flooring, weave runners for specific commissions - such as rugs for Llwynywormwood, Prince Charles's Welsh residence. We work closely with fabric designers, architects and clients who would like to have flooring they can design, come and see being woven and take a small piece of history home from Pembrokeshire for themselves.
Hope to see you soon.
