Solva Woollen Mill Today specialises in the production of flat woven floor coverings. Produced in one of only two remaining woollen mills in Pembrokeshire, these hard wearing reversible rugs are tightly woven from 100% pure wool carpet yarns.
The Mill Today - Its Current Production
Today most of the Mills production is turned over to the manufacture of carpets and floor rugs. As well as our own ranges we weave to commission. Recent work includes weaving floor rugs from yarn provided by customers who have their own sheep and the weaving of reproduction historic floor coverings. The weaving shed contains 5 - 90" Dobcross looms and associated cone and bobbin winders. The warper occupies the old part of the factory which once housed the spinning mule.
Where once the carding engines were sited the
building has been turned into a Tea Room, the old drive wheel from the
water wheel and overhead line shafts can still be seen. The engine shed
and small weaving shed are now a shop for the many visitors that visit.
